- Aimakapa Pond
From Hilo take the Saddle Road (200) West to the Junction with Mamalahoa
Highway (190); turn left and South past Pu`uanahulu (Pu`u Lani Ranch and Golf
Course), bear right on Palani Road to Kailua-Kona Town (about 85 miles total).
Turn right on Queen Ka`ahumanu Highway (19) North to Honokahau Marina and Small
Boat Harbor. Aimakapa Pond is North past Kaloko National Park.
- Hilo Ponds (Waiakea, Loko Waka)
In Hilo, from Kanoelehua Avenue (11) take Pi`ilani Street West to The Wailoa
River Park and Waiakea Pond. For Loko Waka (Lokoaka), take Kamehameha
Avenue East to Waiakea Kai on Kalanaianiole Avenue (19) past Onekahakaha
Park to Kealoha and Carlsmith Parks on left. The pond is directly across the
street.
- Waipio Valley
From Hilo, take Hawaii Belt Road (19) North to Honaka`a Town and continue North
on Honoka`a-Waipio Road (240) to Kukuihaele and overlook (about 47 miles).
Either hike or take a 4-wheel drive vehicle down into Waipio Valley (road
conditions vary).
